What Adrianas Lima Diet Is Really Doing to Her Body

Adriana Lima is one of Victoria Secret’s most well-known angels.  The 33-year-old Brazil native is one of the highest paid super models and has also been regarded as one of the most beautiful women in the world.  However, Lima’s stunning beauty has certainly come with a price.  Due to the constant pressure placed on models to maintain a certain body image, Lima has admitted to using an extreme diet that has often been criticized for being unhealthy and over the top.   In 2011, during an interview with The Daily Telegraph, Lima admitted that she only consumes protein shakes while she is preparing for a show.  She stated that nine days before the show she consumes”No liquids at all,” and added that “sometimes you can lose up to eight pounds just from that.”  After her comments fell under scrutiny, Lima jumped to her own defense and said, “I know it’s very intense but … I just have an athlete’s mind and I appreciate doing this thing…It’s not that I do crazy diets throughout the year. I just do it for this particular thing. After this show, I become normal again.” Even with its extreme nature, fans wanted to know exactly how to duplicate Lima’s physical success, and”The Adriana Lima Diet” became one of the most searched for diets on Google.

However, even with its proven weight loss results, the diet may actually be causing more harm than good. Research has shown that depriving the body of liquids for any extended period of time can weaken the body’s immune system, cause digestive problems, and weaken the stomach’s lining.  The prolonged absence of liquid, especially when coupled with an intense workout regimen, can eventually lead to dehydration which can eventually lead to cardiac issues.

Although Lima probably has a team of well-informed doctors and trainers, the average person may not have easy access to those things and could be putting their health at risk by attempting to follow Lima’s extremely strict regime.  While a “nice body” is something that is sought after by both men and women, is it really worth causing long lasting negative side effects?
