HUNDREDS have gathered to pay tribute to "the rock star of gardening" Colin Campbell.
The popular TV and radio presenter, and Courier-Mail columnist, died aged 78 last Thursday (AUGUST 23) after a battle with cancer.
There were tears and cheers as family, friends and gardeners remembered a life devoted to plants and people.
Executive producer of the ABC's Gardening Australia program, Tim Mitchell, told the service at Nambour on the Sunshine Coast that Mr Campbell was much loved by colleagues and viewers.
"He clearly was a gifted and natural communicator who jumped out of the screen. His gift inspired and enthused and he was a rock star of the gardening world," Mr Mitchell said.
Friend Bryan Hillier said Mr Campbell was "a gardener's gardener".
"His enthusiasm was infectious and he was a man of the people," he said.
Mr Campbell's legacy remains in the many gardens of Queensland and the Roma Street gardens, which he nurtured through the pages of The Courier-Mail.
